Kanye West Commissioned An Artist To Paint A $40,000 Birkin Bag As Kim Kardashian's Christmas Gift

It was a good Christmas for new mom Kim Kardashian, who received probably the most expensive, bizarre purse ever from her fashion-forward fiancé, Kanye West.

Kardashian posted the below to her Instagram account Thursday night:

"#HandPaintedGeorgeCondo #HermesBirkin#OneofOne #ChristmasPresentFromYeezye"

We're sure it's what Kim has always wanted!

While a Hermés Birkin bag alone ranges in price from $7,400 to $150,000, George Condo paintings have been displayed in such prestigious museums as the Whitney, Guggenheim, and MOMA.

The Cut puts the specific bag's cost at $40,000, but has "no guess on what he paid Condo," calling it "the ugliest bag in the history of civilization."

But this isn't the first time West and Condo have collaborated — the artist also illustrated West's 2010 album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy."

It was a good Khristmas in the Kardashian household.

First, Kanye West gifted his fiancée Kim Kardashian with a $40,000 Hermés Birkin bag hand-painted with nudes by artist George Condo.

After posting a photo of the bag to her Instagram account, Kim later posted a pic of West and baby North's matching Christmas gifts — matte black his and hers Lamborghinis, of course!

A child-sized electric Lamborghini, available on the Neiman Marcus website, retails for around $400. Every baby who's any baby needs one, right?

"Like father like daughter," Kim captioned the below photo:

From unexpected deaths of younger stars to the passings of Hollywood legends, we take a look back at the stars we've said goodbye to this year.

Henry Bromell (Age 65)

The executive producer of "Homeland," also known for his screenwriting and directing work on "Chicago Hope" and "Northern Exposure," died from a heart attack on March 18.

"Homeland" co-creators Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon spoke out following Bromell's passing:

“Henry was a profoundly decent and generous man. A great writer and a great friend. No matter how crazy things got, when he was in the room, you knew everything was going to be okay. Everybody here at Homeland is grieving, and we will miss him beyond words."

Richard Griffiths (Age 65)

The British actor known for his Tony-award winning role in "The History Boys" and as Uncle Vernon Dursley in the "Harry Potter" films died from heart surgery complications on March 28.

Following his death, Nicholas Hytner, the director of “The History Boys"told BBC

Jordan BelfortJordan Belfort  the real life wild man and scam artist who inspired Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" is in the process of pitching an uplifting reality show to various networks.

The show sees Belfort, now 51, "stepping in to help others who, like him, have hit rock bottom but still hold out some hope for redemption," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Electus
CEO Chris Grant first approached Belfort about the idea, telling THR, "I knew without even seeing a picture of him that he could be a talent
both behind and in front of the camera."

Grant tracked down Belfort,
now a motivational speaker based out
of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and the two devised a pitch tailored to Belfort’s “unique set of business skills.”

After pitching various networks, interest is already high, says Grant, who adds that several execs described Belfort as "TV Gold."

Since its Christmas Day release, "Wolf of Wall Street" has grossed over $34 million at the stateside box office.

James Franco Defends The Power Of Selfies In NY Times Essay

$

James Franco selfie

Actor James Franco recently wrote an essay for the New York Times titled "The Meanings of the Selfie," in which he explains why he so strongly supports people posting photos of themselves to social media.

He begins by saying what not to do to gain more followers.

"I can see which posts don’t get attention or make me lose followers," Franco explains. "Those with photos of art projects; videos telling the haters to go away (in not so many words); and photos with poems."

The "Pineapple Express" actor argues that "a well-stocked collection of selfies seems to get attention. And attention seems to be the name of the game when it comes to social networking."

Franco adds, "I’ve learned that the selfie is one of the most popular ways to post — and garner the most likes from followers."

And he's right.

A post of art on James Franco's Instagram account garnered nearly 25,000 likes:

James Franco art instagram

But an average selfie like the below from Franco receives over 80,000 likes:

James Franco selfie tiger

Franco explains the power of a celebrity selfie:

"We speak of the celebrity selfie, which is its own special thing. It has value regardless of the photo’s quality, because it is ostensibly an intimate shot of someone whom the public is curious about. It is the prize shot that the paparazzi would kill for, because they would make good money; it is the shot that the magazines and blogs want, because it will get the readers close to the subject."

But he adds that followers are beneficial for every industry:

"The power to attract viewers amid the sea of things to read and watch is power indeed. It’s what the movie studios want for their products, it’s what professional writers want for their work, it’s what newspapers want — hell, it’s what everyone wants: attention."

And if you don't post selfies, don't expect a follow from Franco.

"I am actually turned off when I look at an account and don’t see any selfies, because I want to know whom I’m dealing with. In our age of social networking, the selfie is the new way to look someone right in the eye and say, 'Hello, this is me.'"

Shia LaBeouf Apologizes For Comic Book Plagiarism By Skywriting Over Los Angeles

Actor Shia LaBeouf landed himself in hot water a few weeks ago after the Internet noticed his short film "HowardCantour.com” was a complete rip-off of Daniel Clowes’ obscure 2007 comic “Justin M. Damiano" both about a disgruntled movie critic.

LaBeouf immediately apologized for his actions via Twitter, saying "I f----- up," but the 27-year-old made a much grander gesture Wednesday by hiring a skywriter to fly "I am sorry Daniel Clowes" above Los Angeles on New Year's Day.

Many people took to Twitter to share pictures of the apology in the sky:

LaBeouf even tweeted a cryptic one of his own:

The skywriting gesture came after a spurt of even more apologetic tweets from LaBeouf, who it appears is more distraught by the incident than even Clowes:

Shia LaBeouf apology tweets more

Clowes, meanwhile, is reported to be looking into legal options against LaBeouf, according to his editor and Fantagraphics publisher Eric Reynolds.

"His apology is a non-apology, absolving himself of the fact that he actively misled, at best, and lied, at worst, about the genesis of the film," Reynolds told BuzzFeed last month. "No one 'assumes' authorship for no reason. He implied authorship in the film credits itself, and has gone even further in interviews. He clearly doesn't get it, and that's disturbing. I'm not sure if it's more disturbing that he plagiarized, or that he could rationalize it enough to think it was OK and that he might actually get away with it. Fame clearly breeds a false sense of security."

23 Successful Actors Who Dropped Out Of High School

Mark Wahlberg

Sure Mark Wahlberg is a successful actor, having starred in big-time hits like "The Departed" and "The Fighter," but the Boston-bred star didn't earn his high school diploma until just this year.

Back in September, Wahlberg penned a column for the Huffington Post, explaining his motivations for finishing his degree.

"For almost a year, I've been taking classes and studying any chance I could get - on the set, traveling for work and at home," he wrote. "It has been both humbling and challenging, but I'm happy to report that I am officially a high school graduate, having received my diploma this summer."

And Wahlberg isn't the only big name who didn't graduate.

In fact, Walt Disney himself didn't finish high school, even writing a letter to his school principal saying how "disgusted" he was with his education there.

There are many more actors just like Wahlberg and Disney — stars who left high school and found huge success in Hollywood.

Jim Carrey dropped out of school to help support his family.

He may be one of Hollywood's most famous comedians, with big-name hits like "Liar Liar" and "The Truman Show" on his résumé, but Carrey's life wasn't always such smooth sailing.

Growing up in poverty in Ontario, Canada, Carrey and his siblings worked as janitors at a local factory. When Carrey's mother fell ill, the aspiring actor dropped out of school to help care for her.

Though his family ended up taking residence in a VW bus for awhile, things picked up and the family relocated to Toronto, where Carrey began performing on the local comedy circuit.

At the age of 18, Carrey found his first credit with TV series, "The All-Night Show."

Charlie Sheen earned his high school degree this year.

Sheen attended Santa Monica High School (alongside buddies Sean Penn and Rob Lowe), but his poor grades and attendance got him expelled just a few weeks before graduation.

But the now successful "Two and a Half Men" actor made sure to earn his degree — just this year, actually.

Instead of taking classes to finish up his remaining few credits, the now 48-year-old Sheen told TMZ he got his credits because of charity work he did for the school.

Sheen said he bothered to do it because he wanted to beat "a lifelong habit of never finishing things."

Christina Applegate dropped out of high school and found success on "Married ... with Children."

Hollywood runs in Applegate's veins — her mother was an actress and her father was a record producer, so it isn't a big surprise that the "Anchorman" star decided to pursue acting at a young age, too.

Having appeared in several movies while still at an elementary-school age, Applegate briefly attended Excelsior High School in Hollywood, dropping out during her junior year.

Applegate was 15 years old when she landed a huge role as Kelly Bundy on "Married ... with Children."

The Surprising Real Names Of 30 Celebrities

whoopi goldberg

Sometimes you need to change your name to make it as a star in Hollywood or the music business.

Plenty of today's biggest stars don't go by their birth names — Reese Witherspoon, Mila Kunis, and Natalie Portman.

However, you probably aren't familiar with how they ended up with their current monikers.

Some are simple. Francis Ford Coppola's nephew Nicolas Cage changed his last name to avoid the worries of Hollywood nepotism.

Others, like Bruno Mars and Michael Caine are more inspired. And then there's Whoopi Goldberg, whose name was changed after friends noticed her flatulence problem.

Mila Kunis — Milena Markovna Kunis

At the age of seven, Milena Markovna Kunis and her family moved from Ukraine to Los Angeles, Calif.

Mila's mother, Elvira, and father, Mark, soon enrolled her in acting classes and allowed Mila to shorten her name when she started booking her first roles on "Days of our Lives,""7th Heaven," and playing a young Angelina Jolie in "Gia."

Joaquin Phoenix — Joaquin Rafael Bottom/Leaf Phoenix

Joaquin Rafael Bottom is the third of five children, all with equally interesting names, including River (1970–1993), Rain (1973), Liberty (1976), Summer, and a half-sister Jodean.

After Joaquin's parents, John Lee and Arlyn Bottom, married in 1969, the couple joined the religious cult the Children of God and traveled around South America. But they soon became disenchanted with the cult and moved back to the U.S. in 1978, where they changed their last name to "Phoenix" to symbolize "new beginning."

Around this same time, a young Joaquin began calling himself "Leaf," desiring to have a similar nature-related name like his siblings. In a past Jay Leno interview, Joaquin said he had originally called himself "Antleaf" as a child.

Leaf would become the name he would use as a child actor until, at age 15, he changed it back to Joaquin.

Reese Witherspoon — Laura Jeanne

The "Sweet Home Alabama" actress traded her first and middle name in for her mother's maiden name, "Reese."

Jonah Hill Says ‘Wolf Of Wall Street’ Behavior 'Leads To A Very Bad Ending'

Jonah Hill

Last week, Leonardo DiCaprio slammed"The Wolf of Wall Street" character he portrays, Jordan Belfort, as "everything that's wrong with the world we live in."

DiCaprio went on to defend director Martin Scorsese for allowing "the freedom of this almost hypnotic, drug-infused, wild ride that these characters go on," despite some audiences' negative reactions.

Now Jonah Hill, too, is defending the film he also stars in.

During Variety's brunch at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Hill explained:

“I personally take away the message from the film that this behavior, this lifestyle, leads to a very bad ending. I think the movie is not glorifying this behavior, it is showing that it leads to bad places whether their judicial punishment doesn’t reflect that is one thing. Where your life ends up, who you are as a person, is another.”

Jenny McCarthy Slams 'Irresponsible' Rumor Her Son Was Misdiagnosed With Autism

Jenny McCarthy son Evan"The View" co-host Jenny McCarthy is fighting back after a Radar article, which has since been removed, falsely quoted her as saying that her 11-year-old son, Evan, had been misdiagnosed with autism in 2005.

McCarthy, who has been an outspoken anti-vaccine campaigner after believing it led her son to become autistic, tweeted on Saturday slamming the report.

The 41-year-old mom calls the article "blatantly inaccurate and completely ridiculous" and says she is "taking every legal measure necessary to set this straight."

Read her complete statement below:

Stories circulating online, claiming that I said my son Evan may not have autism after all, are blatantly inaccurate and completely ridiculous. Evan was diagnosed with autism by the Autism Evaluation Clinic at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital and was confirmed by the State of California (through their Regional Center). The implication that I have changed my position, that my child was not initially diagnosed with autism (and instead may suffer from Landau-Kleffner Syndrome), is both irresponsible and inaccurate.

These stories cite a "new" Time Magazine interview with me, which was actually published in 2010, that never contained any such statements by me. Continued misrepresentations, such as these, only serve to open wounds of the many families who are courageously dealing with this disorder. Please know that I am taking every legal measure necessary to set this straight.

In a February 2010 interview with Time, McCarthy said her son, then 7, was improving developmentally. "Evan couldn't talk—now he talks. Evan couldn't make eye contact—now he makes eye contact. Evan was antisocial—now he makes friends. It was amazing to watch, over the course of doing this, how certain therapies work for certain kids and they completely don't work for others."

Jimmy Fallon In Vanity Fair: Lorne Michaels Advised Me Who To Date And Marry

$

Jimmy Fallon Vanity Fair Cover

Jimmy Fallon dreamed of being on "Saturday Night Live" ever since he was a teenager.

Fallon would tape each show for review later and insist on watching alone every Saturday night.

"I just didn’t want anyone ruining my experience,” Fallon tells David Kamp in Vanity Fair’s February cover story. “No small talk. I wanted to see the sketches, the new characters, what the angle was.”

Eventually, Fallon landed a spot on "SNL" at age 24.

Tina Fey, then a writer on the show, recalled the moment Fallon auditioned: "He’s one of two people I’ve ever seen who was completely ready to be on the show. Kristen Wiig is the other one…. And Jimmy was ready—like, if there had been a show to do that night.”

Once he got into the swing of things, Fallon tells Vanity Fair that show creator, Lorne Michaels, really became his mentor — on everything from work to his personal life.

“Lorne helped me with everything — with relationships, with me getting famous,” Fallon tells the mag. “I was going through certain steps, and there were certain things I couldn’t talk to my dad about, because he wouldn’t know. Like ‘I have money now. Do I still rent? Do I buy an apartment?’ Or ‘I’m in L.A., and I have to rent a car.’ [“Lorne” voice] ‘You should get a Lexus, because you want to be quiet.’ Or ‘Should I date this actress?’ [“Lorne” voice] ‘You can date her, but you probably shouldn’t marry her.’ And he’d be totally right.”

After Fallon left "SNL" in 2004 to pursue a (lackluster) career on the big screen, it was Michaels who eventually brought him back to TV to host "Late Night."

Come next month, Fallon will take the reigns from Jay Leno at the "Tonight Show," but he insists he will continue his own brand of humor.

“It’s still going to be the same show,” Fallon tells Vanity Fair. “What I can tell you is it will be the best of what we do.”

Monica Spear, Miss Venezuela

Popular telenovela actress and former Miss Venezuela Mónica Spear is dead at 29 after an attempted robbery late Monday night according to police, Globovision reports.

Spear, who lived in Miami, was traveling with her 5-year-old daughter, Maya, and ex-husband, Henry Thomas Berry, 49, when their rented Toyota Corolla broke down on the Puerto Cabello-Valencia highway in Caracas, Venezuela following a minor accident.

Armed men approached the car and the couple locked themselves inside. The assailants then opened fire, killing Spear and Berry, and shooting 5-year-old Maya in the leg.

Spear appeared in several TV soaps, including Telemundo’s “Flor Salvaje” in 2011 and “Pasión Prohibida” last year, according to Variety.

“We are deeply saddened by the horrible crime that affected the beloved actress Monica Spear and her family,” Telemundo said in a statement.  “Monica was not only a great professional as we saw in the two novelas she worked with us – but also an excellent person, always enthusiastic, full of strength and determination.  We wish a quick recovery to her daughter and send our deepest condolences to her family.”

Venezuela had more than 24,000 homicides in 2013, according to E! Online, and the U.S. Department of State rates the criminal threat level in the nation's capital, Caracas, as "critical."

Spear had been documenting their trip via Instagram prior to being murdered.
